We are delighted to welcome Pr. Piranit Nik Kantaputra, professor of medical genetics and director of the Center of Excellence in Medical Genetics Research at Chiang Mai University, Thaïland. He is also a faculty member of the Division of Pediatric Dentistry, Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry at the Faculty of Dentistry, Chiang Mai University.

Dr. Kantaputera graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Chiang Mai University in 1986, then obtained Certificate and Master of Science in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Minnesota, USA, where he also completed a fellowship in Clinical Dysmorphology under the mentorship of the renowned Pr. Robert J. Gorlin.

His research focuses on uncovering the genetic causes of rare craniofacial malformation syndromes, particulary those involving teeth. Over the course of his career, Dr. Kantaputra and his team have made remarkable discoveries, including the genes responsible for the smallest and largest teeth ever documented. He has identified more than 13 new genetic syndromes, one of which has been named after him : Mesomelic Dysplasia, Kantaputra type. More recently, his group has pinpointed seven genes associated with mesiodens formation and oral exostoses.

Dr. Kantaputra is the author of over 110 international publications and several book chapters. He also serves on the editorial boards of prestigious journals such as the American Journal of Medical Genetics, the Journal of Human Genetics, and the International Journal of Dentistry.

We look forward to his insightful lecture, which promises to shed light on the genetics of rare dental and gingival anomalies and highlight the latest advances in the field.
